Le gombo CODOFIL commence à avoir un goût plus intéressant, parce qu’on est après ajouter des ingrédients. Je suis fière de vous annoncer que Christophe Landry est après traduire notre site web en Créole louisianais. Et puis, commençant en août,, les Patates seront trilingues – français, anglais et créole. Tu parles, ça va être un bon gombo!!
The CODOFIL gumbo is beginning to have a more interesting taste, because we’re about to add a few ingredients. I’m pleased to announce that Christophe Landry is in the process of translating our website into Louisiana Creole. And then, beginning in August, les Patates will become trilingual – French, English and Creole. Yaille, that’s going to be a good gumbo!
Ca grouille au CODOFIL! Les boursiers sont partis pour l’Europe et le Canada, et Valerie Broussard se prépare pour le nouveau programme de bourses. David Cheramie et Jessica Cormier travaillent fort et étroitement avec le Département d’Éducation, les commissions scolaires et le Consortium d’immersion sur l’arrivée des nouveaux profs CODOFIL. Le stage, parrainé par le Département d’Éducation, le CODOFIL, le bureau de la Wallonie-Bruxelles et le Consulat français, aura lieu du 29 juillet au 1 août au Bâton Rouge.
Things are moving at CODOFIL!. The scholarship winners have left for Europe and Canada, and Valerie Broussard is preparing the new scholarship program. David Cheramie and Jessica Cormier are working hard and closely with the Department of Education, the school boards and the Immersion Consortium on the arrival of the new CODOFIL teachers. The workshop, sponsored by the Department of Education, CODOFIL, the Wallonie-Bruxelles Office and the French Consulate, will take place from July 29 through August 1 in Baton Rouge.

L’atelier de télévision de Média-Louisiane était une grande réussite. On a eu 8 participants, et on va sortir 3 vidéoclips assez amusants qui fêtent le français en Louisiane et qui donnent des informations. Les vidéoclips passeront sur Acadiana Open Channel et sur YouTube. On aura une première officielle en septembre. On vous enverra tous les détails!
Média-Louisiane’s television workshop was a big success. We had 8 participants, et we’ll be producing 3 videoclips which celebrate French in Louisiana and provide information. The videoclips will be aired on Acadiana Open Channel and YouTube. There will be an official premiere in September, and we’ll send you all of the details.
Média-Louisiana a aussi lancé une série de subventions pour les projets médiathiques. Des subventions de $250 à $1000 sera offerts aux résidents de la Louisiane pour un projet ou l’assistance technique pour aider dans la production d’un projet de télévision, de radio, d’internet, de Cdrom ou de publication. Vous pouvez passer par le bureau CODOFIL ou me contacter pour une application.
Média-Louisiane has also launched a grant series for media projects. Grants from $250 to $1000 will be offered to residents of Louisiana for projects or technical assistance to help in the production of television, radio, internet, Cdrom or print. Une délégation sénégalaise du village de Borgnie et de l’Ile de Gorée, ainsi que l’ancien Ambassadeur sénégalais aux Etats-Unis, le Général Seck, seront en Louisiane du 1 au 10 août. Ils vont passer du temps à la Nouvelle-Orléans, à la Ville de St-Martin et aux Opélousas et à Lafayette.
A Senegalese delegation from the village of Borgnie and from Goree Island, as well as the former Senegalese Ambassador to the United States, General Seck, will be in Louisiana from August 1-10. They will spend time in New Orleans, St. Martinville, Opelousas and Lafayette.

The Cajun French Music Association is preparing for its big festival, Le Cadien, and also the awards offered to the best Cajun musicians. Brenda Comeaux Trahan, Directrice du Monument Acadien, a contacté la Diocèse de Lafayette pour demander aux églises catholiques de la Diocèse de sonner leurs cloches à 4 :15 p.m. pour commémorer ce moment triste dans notre histoire.
In Canada, July 28 has been declared a day to commemmorate te suffering of the Acadian people because of the genocide from 1755 to 1763. Brenda Comeaux Trahan, Director of the Acadian Memorial, has contacted the Diocese of Lafayette to ask the Catholic churches of the Diocese to sound their bells at 4:15 p.m. to commemorate this sad day in our history.

What’s a Tintamarre??!! Our cousins, the Acadians of the North, have jump-started, in the not too-distant past, a tradition from the Middle Ages which involved making noise to mark sad and joyous events. The Scott twinning committee invites you to a Tintamarre on August 11 at 4 p.m., which starts at City Hall. Families, individuals, businesses and groups are all invited to come bring their pots, spoons or anything else that makes noise. Ca fait 12 ans cette semaine que je suis au CODOFIL. A un moment ou l'autre pendant toutes ces années, le français s'est inséré naturellement dans ma vie quotidienne. J'ai entendu quelqu'un parle cette semaine du français en Louisiane comme langue étrangère et ça me semblait bien drôle. J'adore l'histoire et j'adore voyager, mais je vis bilingue en Louisiane en ce moment. Ca commence à faire bien chaud icitte dans les deux sens!
It's been 12 years this week that I've been at CODOFIL. At some point during all of those years, French just kinda naturally became part of my daily life. I heard someone this week speak of French in Louisiana as a foreign language and that just seemed strange to me. I love history and I love traveling, but I live bilingually in Louisiana at this moment. It's really getting hot here in both meanings of the word!
Les relations communautaires sont pas mal occupées:
--J'ai été récemment à Houma avec ma collègue, Valerie Broussard. Sharon Alford nous a accueillies au Bureau du Tourisme pour une réunion avec quelques personnes clés pour faire de remue méninges sur le futur du français et de la culture françaiseggs dans le coin-là. C'était une grande réussite, et le comité va continuer à se réunir pour discuter un tas de choses, y compris des cours de langues, l'affichage en français, comment raconter l'histoire du coin, etc.
--Et puis on travaille avec le Musée Afro-Américain et la Mission Gorée de St-Martin pour faire un échange de professeurs entre le Sénégal et la Louisiane. On (moi et David Cheramie) s'est joint à Mes. Laura Turpeau, Président du Musée, Danielle Fontenette, Conservatrice du Musée, et Adrienne Fournet, une des fondatrices de la Mission, lla semaine passée pour une réunion avec le Maire des Opélousas, Don Cravins, pour discuter des échanges et d'autres projets. La ville des Opélousas vient de se jumeler avec le village de Borgnie au Sénégal. Les dames de St-Martin travaillent beaucoup sur ces échanges et dans les communautés créoles et africaines, et on est bien content de se joindre à eux sur ces projets.
Community outreach has been fairly busy:
--I was recently in Houma with my colleague, Valerie Broussard. Sharon Alford welcomed us to the Tourism Office for a meeting with several key folks to brainstorm on the future of French and the French cultures in the area. It was a huge success, and the committee will continue to meet to discuss a variety of things, including language courses, bilingual signage, how to tell the story of the area, etc.
--And then we are working with the African American Museum and the Goree Mission in St. Martinville on an exchange of teachers between Senegal and Louisiana. We joined Mrs. Laura Turpeau, President of the Museum, Danielle Fontenette, Museum Curator, and Adrienne Fournet, one of the founders of the Mission, last week for a meeting with the Mayor of the town of Opelousas, Don Cravins, to discuss the exchanges and other projects. The town of Opelousas just twinned with the village of Borgnie in Senegal. The ladies from St. Martinville have worked very hard on these exchanges and in the African and Creole communities, and we are very pleased to join with them on these projects.

We congratulate 2 members of our Council, Amanda LaFleur of the Cajun Studies program at LSU, and Tom Klingler, Professor of French at Tulane. They received 2 grants from the Louisiana Board of Regents Support Fund in 2006, to create an electronic dictionary of Louisiana French and also to create on-line Cajun and Creole French classes. Bravo!
On veut remercier et féliciter Glenda Williams pour tout le bon travail qu'elle a fait avec le programme d'immersion française et espagnole dans la Paroisse Calcasieu depuis quelques années. Glenda était en charge du programme de langues pour la paroisse Calcasieu, mais elle prend sa retraite. Elle va devenir directrice adjointe de St. Louis Catholic High School. Bonne chance et bon courage!
We would like to thank and congratulate Glenda Williams for all of the good work she has done with the French and Spanish immersion program in Calcasieu Parish for the last several years. Glenda has been in charge of the language program for Calcasieu Parish, but she's retiring. She will become assistant principal of St. Louis Catholic High School. Good luck!

Le Musée Afro-Américain et les villes de St-Martin et des Opélousas attendent des nouvelles de l'Ile de Gorée et de Borgnie sur la visite d'une délégation du Sénégal en Louisiane fin juillet.
